Portugal Israel news – Amidst calls from former Hamas leader for a day of jihad on Friday the 13th, the British Government has stated that there will be zero tolerance for antisemitism and acts of terrorism such as those that took place in Israel where children were beheaded, and bodies of young women were mutilated then paraded.

British Home Secretary Suella Braverman has stated to The Jewish Chronicle: “We will protect British Jews from harm” on the streets of Britain. She added that it is important to clarify that Hamas is a terrorist organization, not militants.

“The enormity of the barbarity that we’re seeing by Hamas terrorists towards Israel is unforgivable and sickening,” stated British Home Secretary Suella Braverman. She added that “the UK government is proud to stand as a friend of Israel through this horrific attack. This is terrorism, it’s brutality, it’s pure evil. That’s why I uphold Israel’s right to defend its borders and its security.”

The British Home Secretary has stated that “a zero-tolerance approach must be taken to instances of antisemitism. I’m thinking here of 2021. I do think there was a failure of a response then. Hate chants like ‘from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’, which to my mind mean only one thing — ethnic cleansing of Jews — went totally unpoliced. There were convoys of vehicles with people urging the rape of Jewish girls and murder of Jewish women, and again a blind eye was turned.”

In a letter to chief constables in England and Wales, British Home Secretary urged them to clamp down on any attempts to use flags, songs or swastikas to harass or intimidate members of the Jewish community. The letter sent by British Home Secretary Suella Braverman came after UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak vowed that anyone in the UK supporting Hamas would be “held to account” in the aftermath of the attack on Israel.

In Portugal, the mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, has stated: "We have all seen images on television and these attacks go beyond anything we thought possible. Lisbon unconditionally supports Israel, and we have to fight terrorism, because Hamas is terrorist, something we have to say loudly so that there is no doubt."
