Portuguese wine news – A bumper crop is expected for the 2023 Portuguese grape harvest.
The Portuguese grape harvest 2023 is expected to be one of the most productive in the last two decades and production should increase by 10% compared to 2022.
Portuguese vineyards are expecting a bumper crop in 2023, due to the soil and climate specificities that benefited the different grape varieties and prolonged the harvest for all wine regions. The grape harvest in Portugal started in August and ended in October.
Favorable climate conditions during the grape harvest in Portugal allowed the development and maturation of grape berries to be heterogeneous, particularly in the most exposed dryland vineyards that were exposed to the extreme temperatures of the month of August.
Except for some sub-regions of the Vinho Verde region and the Beira Interior region, it is expected that the overall productivity will increase in all wine regions, which will lead to a total production of around 7.3 million hectoliters.
The Portuguese grape harvest 2023 is thus expected to be one of the best in the last two decades with excellent prospects for the quality of the 2023 vintage.
