Portugal’s 2023 Carnival will be on February 21st. The origin of the tradition of Shrovetide dates back to pagan times and is always celebrated on a Tuesday, 40 days before Easter, in order to symbolize temptation. Reservations in Portugal’s hotels are already higher than pre-pandemic levels with a strong demand from the British, German and French holidaymakers.
