Portugal news - Cristiano Ronaldo’s new media company, Medialivre, will soon launch a TV channel.
Cristiano Ronaldo has a 30% share in Portuguese media company, Medialivre, since it purchased Cofina Media from Cofina SGPS. He is the second largest shareholder in the media company as the largest stake, with 32%, is held by Sorolla SA.
Portuguese football star, Cristiano Ronaldo, became a major shareholder in one of the largest Portuguese media companies, Medialivre, through his own company CR7 SA. Portuguese media conglomerate Cofina was rebranded Medialivre on December 14th, 2023.
Ronaldo’s new media company, Medialivre just obtained the green light by the Portuguese Regulatory Entity to launch a TV channel, that will be called News Now. The main focus of the new TV channel will be political and economic themes, with special emphasis on Europe. The news channel, that is expected to start broadcasting by June 2024, foresees the creation of 58 new jobs.
News Now broadcasts will also involve the creation of a group of commentators and one of them will be António Costa, Portugal’s former Prime Minister.
What are Cristiano Ronaldo’s investments in Portugal?
Cristiano Ronaldo is not only the world’s most famous football star, but he is also a savvy investor with a vast and highly diversified portfolio of business holdings. His company CR7, that is based in Portugal, owns a business empire comprised of more than a dozen direct and indirect stakes in Portuguese companies operating in different sectors, with a particular focus on tourism and real estate; and now more recently in the media sector, since his acquisition of 30% of the capital of Cofina Media from Cofina SGPS.
In Cristiano Ronaldo's portfolio of companies, there are two that stand out as his largest investments, namely CR7 Lifestyle that is a sole proprietorship with more than 20 million in equity, and CR7 SA.
CR7 Lifestyle has a 100% stake in CR7 Lifestyle Lisboa, the company that owns the Pestana CR7 Lisboa Hotel in Lisbon, and also a 50% stake in Pestana CR7 Madeira Hotel Investimentos Turísticos, in Funchal. His other company, CR7 SA, has a 50% stake in the hotel CR7 Marrakesh, and a 70% stake of Mussara in the events sector, among other business investments.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s real estate investments include an apartment in Lisbon’s luxury avenue, Avenida da Liberdade, that is valued at more than 8 million euros, a house in the UK that is worth more than 6 million euros, as well as a house in Madrid’s exclusive area that is valued at more than 15 million euros. Cristiano Ronaldo’s new house in Portugal will be located in Cascais and he is planning to invest in a residential project of 88 apartments in Portugal with the Pestana group, Pestana Residences CR7, in the second half of 2024.
In addition to his business investments, Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr is worth more than 200 million euros yearly until 2025, and his brand partnerships are especially lucrative. These include Nike, with whom he has a lifetime contract that is worth more than 20 million euros yearly, as well as famous brands such as Armani and Tag Heuer, and more recently Binance, the largest cryptocurrency platform in the world.
