Portugal news - How will Portuguese startup Azitek improve the efficiency of Ford Motor Company? Portuguese company Azitek has developed an asset tracking system for Ford’s largest factory in Europe that is in Valencia, Spain. The technology developed by the Portuguese company has a potential market of 100,000 customers in Europe and America.
Azitek has developed a low-cost geolocation solution for the automotive industry, airports and seaports, that is based on proprietary RFID technology and IoT. The technology enables tag detection up to 200m and the gateway is able to monitor over 50,000 tags in real-time. The solution digitizes and locates high-value assets in large complexes and manages automated warnings.
The new asset tracking system developed by Azitek will make it possible for US multinational Ford to reduce 7% of losses on returnable transport items that are used to transport stock items from one location to another. The main benefits will include reducing delays in the supply chain and helping to prevent loss of returnable transport packaging, which is a common problem that increases costs.
The Portuguese startup was incubated at UPTEC, the Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto and won the BoostUp challenge launched by Ford under the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) initiative.
