Leading video game company FunPlus chooses Lisbon for its Creative Hub

Portugal news - Leading video game company, FunPlus, just chose Lisbon as a Creative Hub to focus on expanding the indie gaming company’s IP across entertainment platforms.

 

“Our city has become a global hub for innovators and unicorn companies,” stated the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, in a statement welcoming FunPlus to Lisbon’s exciting and diverse tech community.

 

Portugal’s video game industry is growing rapidly and with it, comes the development of intellectual property and innovation, such as FunPlus that intends to use Lisbon as a hub to innovate in the video game industry to include other platforms, such as television and cinema.

 

Leading video game company FunPlus has chosen Portugal to open its creative hub, Studio Ellipsis, in Lisbon, in a move that is part of Portugal’s broader strategy to consolidate its video games industry into an international hub for innovation.

 

FunPlus, one of the largest privately held companies in the gaming industry, is a global creator of interactive entertainment experiences powered by technology, with cross-platform game development and IP creation at its core. FunPlus is an organization that fosters top industry talent, with more than 2,000 team members based in offices and studios across three continents. These talented creative teams are well-known for developing hugely popular cross-platform titles including State of Survival, King of Avalon, Guns of Glory, Stormshot and Sea of Conquest.

 

FunPlus intends to use its new hub, Studio Ellipsis in Lisbon, to launch the comic “Sea of ​​Conquest: Cradle of the Gods”, a comic series based on strategy game “Sea of Conquest: Pirate War”, that will mark the beginning of a new era of innovation through various media, from video games to audiovisual content.

 

The main reason why FunPlus chose Lisbon as the location for Studio Ellipsis is due to the Portuguese capital’s “burgeoning potential as a creative and technological hub” and “recognition as a dynamic environment for game development and digital entertainment.”

 

FunPlus stated that Studio Ellipsis plans to create more than 50 jobs over the next three years, with a focus on attracting both Portuguese professionals as well as international talent eager to push the boundaries of storytelling and IP development.

 

FunPlus is collaborating with Portuguese universities and organizations like the APVP (Associação de Produtores de Videojogos Portugueses) and The Gaming Hub by Unicorn Factory Lisboa to foster local talent and for economic development.

 

Lisbon’s Unicorn Factory is turning the city into a global hub for innovators, where some of the most revolutionary tech products are being developed, and that has already led to the creation of over 15,000 jobs within less than three years.
