Portugal news - Lisbon’s Tourism sector earnings nearly doubled for the Santo António Festival on June 12-13, according to a report by UNICRE.

 

On June 12th, the people of Lisbon head to the main avenue, Avenida da Liberdade, for the longest night of festivities, the night of the Popular Marches when representatives from each neighborhood in Lisbon march and sing popular songs. The Lisbon municipality of Alcântara won the 2024 edition of the Lisbon Popular Marches Competition.

 

The impact of Santo António festivities on Lisbon’s economy shows the growing popularity of festivals in Portugal. Lisbon’s Santo António (Saint Anthony) Festival with its popular marches (Marchas Populares) has led to earnings from the Tourism sector to increase by 75%. In the hotel and tourism activities sector, tourist transactions increased by 51%, while domestic transactions soared by 121%.

 

In the trade sector, performance through card transactions indicates that the national turnover registered a significant growth of 18% compared to the same period in 2023, while foreign turnover increased by 7%.
