In 2022, renewable energy represented 23.0% of energy consumed in the EU and the objective of the European Green Deal is to become the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050. The use of renewable energy has many potential benefits, including a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, the diversification of energy supplies and a reduced dependency on fossil fuel markets.

No 1 – Sweden


Sweden ranks No 1 EU country using the highest share of renewable energy with a total of 66% compared to the EU average of 23%. Sweden leads among EU countries, with 66.0 % of its gross final energy consumption in 2022 derived from renewable sources. Sweden’s energy mix included hydro, wind, solid and liquid biofuels, as well as heat pumps.
