Portugal news - Portugal ranks 5th country to open the most hotels in Europe by 2026, while Lisbon ranks 3rd city with the largest number of hotels to open in Europe for the same period, according to Lodging Econometrics.

 

The Europe Hotel Construction Pipeline Trend Report 2024 reveals that Europe’s total pipeline of hotels to open stands at 1,680 hotels with a total number of 249,454 rooms by the end of Q2 2024.  Most hotel projects in Europe are concentrated in the upper upscale, upscale, and upper midscale chain scales.  

 

 

Here are the Top 5 countries to open the most hotels in Europe by 2026:



1 – UK


There are 306 hotels for a total number of 43,515 rooms that will open in the United Kingdom by 2026.

 

 

2 – Germany


There are 178 hotels for a total number of 28,637 rooms that will open in Germany by 2026.

 

 

3 – France


There are 120 hotels for a total number of 12,831rooms that will open in France by 2026.

 

 

4 – Turkey


There are 117 hotels for a total number of 17,856 rooms that will open in Turkey by 2026.

 

 

5 – Portugal


There are 114 hotels for a total number of 14,247rooms that will open in Portugal by 2026.

 

 

These five countries combined account for 50% of hotels to open in Europe and 47% of the total number of rooms in new hotel openings by 2026.

1 – London


76 hotels with a total number of 14,954 rooms will open in London by 2026.

 

 

2 – Istanbul


50 hotels with a total number of 8,397 rooms will open in Istanbul by 2026.

 

 

3 – Lisbon


36 hotels with a total number of 4,425 rooms will open in Lisbon by 2026.

 

 

4 – Dublin


26 hotels with a total number of 5,012 rooms will open in Dublin by 2026.

 

 

5 – Dusseldorf


24 hotels with a total number of 4,448 rooms will open in Dusseldorf by 2026.

 

 

Looking ahead, Lodging Econometrics predicts continued growth in new hotel openings in Europe, with 368 new hotels with a total number of 52,760 rooms scheduled to open in 2025.
