Portugal news - Portugal’s port of Sines ranks in the Top 15 container ports in the EU in 2024, according to PortEconomics.
With expansion works still ongoing, forecasts for the port of Sines for this year estimate that it will surpass the 2 million TEU barrier of 20-foot equivalent units of container port traffic. The company that manages and operates the Sines Container Terminal, PSA Sines, has the capacity to move 2.7 million TEUs and is currently developing the phase III expansion project at the container terminal in the Alentejo port with investments of 412 million euros.
While 2023 was characterized by a strong to moderate traffic decline in most EU ports, the first half of 2024 brought double-digit growth in 7 of the top 15 ports.
