Portugal’s Prime Minister, António Costa, is presenting the future of Lisbon with the South Bay project, also called the Arco Ribeirinho Sul. The new urban development, that will be located on the left margin of the Tagus River, is set to become an international hub.
The Lisbon South Bay project will include extending the metro line, a fluvial terminal, as well as a 38 kms riverside promenade between Alcochete and Almada. The government will remedy contaminated soils and create a hub for the industry of the future.
This mega urban development is promoted by public entity Baía do Tejo and by the municipalities of Almada, Barreiro and Seixal. The Seixal Business Park, that will be developed on 537 hectares, will become a hub for businesses, industries and logistics, while the existing steel industry will be further developed. This upcoming development is set to become the Atlantic Way of Business and is only 18 minutes away from the centre of Lisbon.
In order to access EU funds for the project, the Setúbal peninsula, that is part of the greater Lisbon area, will become autonomous.
