What is the Conjured Dinner organized by Portugal’s Royal House?

The Conjured or Conspirators Dinner organized by Portugal’s Royal House is a yearly event that is co-organized with Portugal’s monarchist youth and is hosted by His Royal Highness Dom Duarte Pio de Bragança with Princess Maria Francisca de Bragança. The event commemorates the coup d'état of December 1, 1640, following which Portugal became independent from Spain.

The Conjured were a Portuguese nationalist group that conspired to end Spanish rule over Portugal. The group of around 40 representatives of noble families was called The Forty Conjurers and they wore forty coats of arms. The Conjured Dinner celebrates the success of the conspiracy that led to proclaiming a Portuguese king, D. João IV, Duke of Bragança. The entire Portuguese nation as well as the clergy supported the revolution and the Restoration of Independence.
