Portugal news – Two symbols of Portugal, Portuguese filigree and sardines, have been combined to create a unique piece of gold filigree jewelry displaying Portuguese edible Gold: Sardines.

The unique piece of art symbolizing Portugal, that was created by the Portuguese Filigree Workshop, is on display in Times Square, New York, at the Portuguese Sardine store of O Valor do Tempo Group.

The exclusive jewel in the shape of a gold ingot replicates an exquisite Portuguese Sardine preserve, with delicate skinless and boneless sardine fillets and edible gold. A true work of art electroplated with 1.5-micron gold, that is displayed in Times Square, was produced using the Portuguese Filigree technique that took at least three days to complete.

Sharon Stone, Cecília Krull, Cristina Ferreira, Carla Bruni, Úrsula Corberó, Queen Leticia of Spain and Princess Mary of Denmark have all chosen to wear Portuguese Filigree, a status-symbol made in Portugal.

Since March 2024, Portuguese filigree is now certified with the exclusive Contrastaria brand following the agreement signed between the public body INCM and the Municipalities of Gondomar in the district of Porto, and of Póvoa de Lanhoso in the district of Braga, where goldsmithing through the ancient art of filigree is the main activity due to the gold mines that used to be dotted around the region.
