Portugal royalty news – A Portuguese Royal Wedding is taking place on October 7th, 2023, and it will be the first royal wedding in almost three decades in Portugal.


The wedding of the daughter of the Dukes of Braganza, Infanta Maria Francisca de Bragança with lawyer Duarte de Sousa Araújo Martins, will take place this Saturday at the Basilica of the National Palace of Mafra, that is a municipality that belongs to the district of Lisbon.


Wedding guests include representatives of the royal houses of Luxembourg, Brazil, Liechtenstein, France, Austria, Bulgaria, among other members of several foreign royal families, as well as Portugal’s President.


The royal bride will be wearing a tiara with 800 diamonds that was originally a gift from King Louis I to his daughter in law Princess Amélie of Orléans for her wedding to the crown Prince D. Carlos in 1886. The bride’s father, D. Duarte Pio, inherited the tiara after the death of the last Queen of Portugal.


Infanta Maria Francisca is the Duchess of Coimbra and a member of the Portuguese royal family. She is the daughter of Duarte Pio, the Duke of Braganza and of Isabel, the Duchess of Braganza. Princess Maria Francisca is the third in the line of succession to the Portuguese throne.


Her father, Duarte Pio João Miguel Gabriel Rafael de Bragança, was born in Switzerland in 1945 and would be recognized as the legitimate heir to the Crown of Portugal if the country were a monarchy. He is the father of Afonso who was born in 1996, of Maria Francisca who was born in 1997 and of Dinis who was born in 1999.


Portuguese royal Maria Francisca de Bragança is the daughter of the Dukes of Bragança. She is 26 years old and studied Social and Cultural Communication at the Catholic University in Lisbon. Her husband-to-be, Duarte de Sousa Araújo Martins, is 32 years old, and has a law degree as well a master's degree in Banking and Financial Law from Queen Mary University, in London.


The Most Serene House of Braganza, also known as the Brigantine dynasty, is a dynasty of emperors, kings, princes, and dukes of Portuguese origin who reigned in Europe and the Americas.
