Tech news - Portuguese Unicorn Feedzai acquires Australian tech company DemystData for $100 million, according to an announcement made on April 22, 2025.
Portuguese Unicorn Feedzai is a private cybersecurity company that is worth more than one billion dollars and that is led by Nuno Sebastião. Feedzai was founded by Nuno Sebastião, Pedro Bizarro and Paulo Marques in Coimbra, Portugal, in 2011, and became a Unicorn (a company worth over a billion dollars) in March 2021. Feedzai has ten international offices and more than 600 employees.
“We’ve acquired Demyst and their powerful Zonic platform to supercharge our RiskOps capabilities with data orchestration. This is more than an acquisition — it’s a leap forward in our mission to make banking safer for everyone, everywhere,” according to Nuno Sebastiao, Feedzai CEO and co-founder.
Feedzai is the world’s first end-to-end financial crime prevention platform, protecting people and payments with AI-native solutions that stop fraud and financial crime. Leading financial institutions trust Feedzai to manage critical risk and compliance processes, safeguarding trillions of dollars of transactions while improving the customer experience and protecting the privacy of everyday users.
“External data is the next frontier of business impact for financial institutions, yet it is notoriously complex, involving a labyrinth of sources for KYC/AML, identity, fraud, credit checks, and compliance,” said Mark Hookey, CEO of Demyst.
The combination of Feedzai’s cutting-edge, responsible AI with Demyst’s real-time data orchestration will “help the regulators’ cause of reducing mule accounts and scams”, according to Dr. Ashish Kakar, Research Financial Insights Director, IDC Asia/Pacific.
Feedzai was advised in the acquisition of DemystData by law firms Cooley and Garrigues.
The acquisition of DemystData is the second acquisition made by Portuguese Unicorn Feedzai, since it acquired Revelock in 2021 for an undisclosed amount.
