Portugal travel news – Portugal has registered historic highs in monthly passenger numbers since the beginning of 2023. Here are Portugal’s Top 5 travel markets and inbound travel destinations:
Between January and October 2023, the number of air passengers in Portugal increased by 20.6% compared to the same period in 2022. Just for the month of October 2023, Portugal received a total of 6.4 million passengers. In October, the daily average of inbound air passengers was around 101,000 passengers, that is +11.6% higher than in October 2022, according to Portugal’s statistics office INE.

1 – The UK
The United Kingdom is Portugal’s No. 1 air travel market both for inbound and outbound flights, registering a growth of 17.5% in the number of incoming passengers and of 17.6% in the number of outgoing passengers, compared to the same period in 2022.
2 – France
France is Portugal’s No. 2 market, both for inbound and outbound flights, registering a growth of 20% in the number of incoming passengers and 20.3% in the number of outgoing passengers, compared to the same period in 2022.
3 – Spain
Spain ranks No. 3 market for air travel both for inbound and outbound flights, registering a growth of 35.3% in the number of incoming passengers and 34.8% in the number of outgoing passengers, compared to the same period in 2022.
4 – Germany
Germany ranks No. 4 market both for inbound and outbound flights, registering a growth of 9.2% in the number of incoming passengers and 9.53% in the number of outgoing passengers, compared to the same period in 2022.
5 – Italy
Italy ranks No. 5 market both for inbound and outbound flights, registering a growth of 34.1% in the number of incoming passengers and 33.7% in the number of outgoing passengers, compared to the same period in 2022.

1 - Lisbon
Lisbon airport handled 49.0% of total passengers, that is 28.7 million people, between January – October 2023. The number of passengers has grown 21.3% when compared to the same period in 2022.
2 – Porto
Porto airport handled 22.4% of total passengers between January – October 2023. The number of passengers has grown 21.9% when compared to the same period in 2022.
3 – Faro in the Algarve
Faro airport in the Algarve handled 22.4% of total passengers between January – October 2023. The number of passengers has grown 18.3% when compared to the same period in 2022.
