Portugal news - Portugal created a fund to be allocated to VC firms by the development bank, Banco Português de Fomento (BPF), under the Capitalization and Resilience Fund (FdCR).
The Venture Capital Programme has an allocation of 400 million euros to allocate to venture capital firms (VCs) that invest in startups, especially in the pre-seed, seed, start-up, and later stage venture phases.
The rules of Portugal’s Venture Capital program provide for the possibility of a capital increase by the development bank if the VC firms meet the target deadlines. Out of the 12 VC firms contracted by Portugal’s development bank, seven have already made investments in 21 startups.
Since Indico Capital and Oxy Capital have met Portugal’s first target, the development bank has increased their funding from 35 million to 50 million euros in the Indico VC Fund II, and from 30 million to 50 million euros in the Juno Fund, managed by Oxy Capital.
The industries have the most VC funding in Portugal under the Capitalization and Resilience Fund (FdCR) include the ICT sector, e-commerce, engineering, finance, cleantech, consulting, accommodation, tourism, biotechnology and motorcycle manufacturing. The VC beneficiary companies are distributed across several regions in Portugal, including Porto, Lisbon, Braga, Viseu, Guimarães, Santo Tirso.
