Portugal news – The largest Data Center in Europe is launched in the port of Sines, in Portugal, with DE-CIX.

Portugal’s port if Sines is now a major Digital Interconnexion Hub for intercontinental connectivity with all the requisites for a robust data ecosystem, including infrastructure, a docking station for the Ellalink submarine cable, a diversified and highly resilient terrestrial network, and now an IXP presence, with the deployment of DE-CIX at SINES DC.

Portugal’s port of Sines is well positioned to become a vital exchange point for data traffic crossing the Atlantic and is seen as part of the Iberian Peninsula’s next-generation regional Mega Hub by German internet services giant DE-CIX.

Sines in Portugal is expected to soon become a global digital gateway with the implementation of several cables providing direct connectivity with North America, Southern Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The growing importance of Sines as a connectivity hub for private operators shows that the center of gravity of data is moving further south in Europe.

The Sines Data Center (Sines DC) is the largest Data Center campus in Europe, with 1.2 GW of fully secured grid access for IT servers in Portugal, and its first building, ‘SIN01’, is now ready to channel IX traffic.

DE-CIX, which operates Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), is now offering interconnection services at the Sines Data Center as the extension of the DE-CIX distributed platform from Lisbon.
