While the No 1 country globally with the highest gold reserves is the United States of America with 8,133.46 tonnes of gold, the EU holds the No 2 country globally with the highest gold reserves as Germany holds 3,351.53 tonnes of gold reserves as at Q4 2024. 

 

 

What is the price of Gold per ounce & per tonne in Euros in 2025?

 

Gold prices have been on an upward trend and have reached new highs with a record price of 2,851.71 euros per ounce on March 30th, 2025, driven by trade tensions between China and the United States.

 

The price of Gold per tonne (mt) has reached $ 98,000,000.72, that equals EUR 90,483,400.66 on March 28, 2025.

 

 

Will the price of Gold continue rising - the case of Portugal

  

The price of gold is on a rising trend, increasing the market value of gold reserves by over 7% since the start of 2025.

 

The example of Portugal shows the significant rise in gold prices, since between 2020 and 2023, the value of Portugal’s gold reserves fluctuated around 20 billion euros, however, from 2024 onwards gold prices began to soar. In March 2023, the value of Portugal’s gold reserves jumped to 25 billion and in October it rose to over 31 billion euros. In January 2025, the value of Portugal’s gold reserves shot up to reach 33,201.6 million euros, increasing by 7% compared to December 2024 and since then gold prices are still rising significantly.
