
Automotive news Portugal – Volkswagen’s new ID. EVERY1 electric car (EV) will be built by Autoeuropa in Portugal. The new Volkswagen EV will only cost 20,000 euros and will thus enable affordable mobility with an electric car made in Europe for Europe.
Portuguese automotive manufacturer Autoeuropa has won the contract for the production of the new Volkswagen EV, that represents an important investment, in the order of several hundred million euros, for the Portuguese economy.
Portugal’s Ministry of Economy welcomed the announcement by the German company to produce its new Volkswagen EV ID. EVERY1 in Portugal because it “secures the future” of the Portuguese automotive manufacturer Autoeuropa that was the champion of Portuguese exports that represented 1.3% of Portugal’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023.
Volkswagen will launch the production version of its new all-electric model ID. EVERY1 in 2027 with a starting price of around 20,000 euros. The second Volkswagen EV model ID. 2all will be launched in 2026 at a price of 25,000-euro. Both models are part of the new Electric Urban Car Family based on Volkswagen’s new modular electric drive platform: the MEB with front-wheel drive.
“Our goal: We will expand our position as the world’s leading volume manufacturer in terms of technology by 2030. And as a brand for everyone – just as you would expect from Volkswagen,” stated Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars.
The Volkswagen EV ID. EVERY1 reaches a top speed of 130 km/h and is powered by a newly developed electric drive motor with 70 kW (95 PS). With a range of at least 250 kilometers and a length of 3,880 mm, the ID. EVERY1 offers space for four people and a luggage compartment volume of 305 liters.
Portuguese automotive manufacturer Autoeuropa, which at the end of 2024 had 4,842 employees, will convert its plant located in Palmela into a new generation electrified factory, with the adoption of production and logistics processes, as well as the robotic assembly of battery systems.
“The Palmela factory will become more efficient and able to compete with global manufacturers, aligning the company, and Portugal, with the European climate objectives of carbon neutrality” according to Portugal’s Ministry of Economy.
Autoeuropa produced 236,100 cars in 2024, with 99% of production destined for export, and closed 2024 with a turnover of 3.8 billion euros.
