Portugal news - What is the economic impact of Airbnb in Portugal?
Travel to Portugal using the Airbnb platform generated more than 2.4 billion euros in revenue and almost 1.1 billion euros in taxes in Portugal in 2023, according to an analysis on the economic impact of Airbnb in Portugal carried out using IMPLAN Cloud.
The estimated tax amount includes more than 63.3 million euros in tourist taxes collected and remitted by Airbnb on behalf of hosts in the cities of Lisbon and Porto, as well as taxes related to hosts' income and expenses, and to the economic activity resulting from guests' visits to local businesses.
In 2023, guests on Airbnb reported spending around 116 euros per day during their trip in Portugal and approximately 38% of these expenses were made in the neighborhood where they were staying.
Taking into account the direct and indirect impact of travel through their platform, Airbnb estimates that it was possible to support 55,000 jobs in Portugal, 60% of which are linked to restaurants, local businesses, shops, entertainment and events.
