Top 5 most popular electric cars (EVs) in Portugal:  



1 – Tesla


Tesla is the best-selling electric car (EV) brand in Portugal, with 6,202 cars placed on the roads for the first eight months of 2024.

 

However, in August 2024, Tesla was only the 5th best-selling EV car brand in Portugal with 181 cars sold, representing a year-on-year drop of 84.5%.

 

 

2 – BMW


BMW ranks 2nd best-selling electric car (EV) brand in Portugal, with 2,541 cars placed on the roads for the first eight months of 2024.

 

However, in August 2024, BMW was the No 1 best-selling electric car (EV) brand in Portugal, with 336 units placed on the market, representing a year-on-year growth of 15.9%.

 

 

3 – Volvo


Volvo ranks 3rd best-selling electric car (EV) brand in Portugal, with 2,111 cars placed on the roads for the first eight months of 2024.

 

In August 2024, Volvo remained the third best-selling electric car (EV) brand sold in Portugal with 262 cars sold.

 

 

4 – BYD


In August 2024, BYD became the second best-selling electric car (EV) brand in Portugal with 276 cars sold.

 

 

5 – Mercedes


In August 2024, Mercedes rose to become the 4th best-selling electric vehicle (EV) brand in Portugal, with 241 cars sold.

 

 

What is the most popular type of EV in Portugal?

 

In Portugal, there was a 9.5% increase in sales of electric cars (EVs) for the first eight months of 2024 with 25,015 cars sold, compared to the same period in 2023 with 22,839 cars sold.

 

However, in August 2024, there was a 50% drop in sales of light electric goods vehicles and there was a year-on-year drop in sales of hybrid cars was 100%.
