The percentage of electric and hybrid car sales in Portugal in 2023 for all types of electric vehicles grew by 60,4% compared to 2022.

 

Per type of electric and hybrid vehicles sold in Portugal in 2023, there was a growth of 101.9% for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) passenger cars, of 140.9% for BEV light goods vehicles and of 523.4% for BEV heavy goods vehicle, according to data from ACAP.

 

Just for the month of December 2023, there were 8,640 new electric, plug-in and electric hybrid passenger cars registered in Portugal, that represents a 52.7% growth compared to the same period in 2022.

 

 

What is Portugal’s best-selling luxury EV car brand?

 

The favorite luxury car brand of the Portuguese is Mercedes Benz, and it is Portugal’s leading premium automotive brand since the last nine years.

 

Mercedes-Benz is also a best-selling EV car brand since more than 56% of sales were electric cars and plug-in hybrids, with a total of 8,324 units registered, that is a growth of 63% compared to the same period in 2022. More than 16% of sales were fully electric cars, with a total of 2,408 units registered, that is a 65% growth compared to the same period in 2022.

 

For all types of vehicles, both EV and non-electric, Mercedes Benz sold a record number of 14,810 passenger vehicles in 2023, that is a 22.6% growth compared to the same period in 2022.

 

During the month of December 2023, Mercedes Benz registered record sales with a 50.4% growth compared to the same period in 2022. The luxury car brand was not only the No 1 in Portugal’s premium automotive market segment but also rose to become second best-selling car brand for all market segments.
