While the average monthly salary in Portugal is 1,640 euros, having increased by 6.4% in the quarter ending in June 2024, some sectors have a much higher increase in average salary.

 

 

Here are the sectors with the highest-paying jobs in Portugal:

 


1 - The extractive industries

 

Jobs in the extractive industries in Portugal have an average salary increase of 13.6% in the second quarter of 2024.

 

 

2 – Health sector


Jobs in the health sector in Portugal have an average salary increase of 12.1% in the second quarter of 2024.

 

 

3 - Social support activities


Jobs in the social support activities sector in Portugal have an average salary increase of 12.1% in the second quarter of 2024.

 

 

4 – Energy and water sectors

 

While jobs in the energy and water sectors, including electricity, gas, steam, hot and cold water and cold air activities in Portugal only had an average salary increase of less than 1% in the second quarter of 2024, it is worth noting that the energy and water sectors have the highest-paying jobs in Portugal.  In fact, in June 2024, the energy and water sectors in Portugal paid the highest average total remuneration per worker, with an average salary of 3,588 euros. This compares to jobs that pay low wages in agriculture, animal production, hunting, forestry and fishing, where the average salary in Portugal is 976 euros.

 

 

Where can i find a well-paid job in Portugal?

 

In Portugal, it is better to work for larger companies, according to data published by the statistics office INE, since they not only pay higher salaries, but they are also those that have the highest salary increases.

 

In fact, in June 2024, salaries in Portugal varied between 1,039 euros in companies with one to four employees, and 2,044 euros in companies with 500 or more employees.
