  • Why is Lufthansa Group investing massively in Portugal?

Why is Lufthansa Group investing massively in Portugal? - Portugal Business News Portugal news - Lufthansa Group is investing massively in Portugal with a new Lufthansa Technik plant for the repair of engine parts and aircraft components.   German multinational Lufthansa Group is building and opening its own plant in Portugal for the first time in its history to provide technological services to the aviation industry through Lufthansa Technik.   Lufthansa Technik just bought a 230,000 square meter property in the “Lusopark” business park in the district of Aveiro in the Porto Metropolitan Area. The new Lufthansa Technik Portugal plant is expected to be completed by the end of 2027 and will be equipped with the latest technologies in the MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) industry.     Why did Lufthansa Group choose Portugal for its new plant?   Lufthansa Group sent teams from Lufthansa Technik to Portugal and they worked for several months to find the ideal location for a multi-million-euro investment in a new state-of-the-art plant.   The main reasons why the Lufthansa Group chose Portugal to invest massively through the new Lufthansa Technik plant include the following:   1 – One important reason for the Lufthansa Group   choice of location is Portugal's position in the European Union.   2 – Portugal’s stable political framework conditions are a decisive factor.   3 - Another equally important reason for the Lufthansa Group’s choice of Portugal for their new plant is the country’s good infrastructure.   4 – Portugal’s labor market is especially attractive for setting-up an plant in the aviation industry in Portugal.   5 - The choice of the Lufthansa Group’s new location in Portugal is mainly due to the fact that the new Lufthansa Technik plant in Portugal will be strategically positioned to further expand as the global market leader in providing technological services for the aviation industry to serve their over 800 international customers.   This new investment is also a sign of the Lufthansa Group's commitment to Portugal.   Lufthansa Group obtained the support of the Portuguese government, represented by the trade and investment agency AICEP, and of the city of Santa Maria da Feira to go ahead with their investment plans. Moreover, Portuguese law firm Morais Leitão is advising Lufthansa Technik on the project.     The choice of Portugal for the new Lufthansa Technik plant represents a further step towards the reindustrialization of Portugal. According to Portuguese Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, this “demonstrates the strong confidence in our national infrastructure and human capital, particularly in our highly skilled engineers and technicians in the aeronautics sector. It also shows that we are taking the right steps towards attracting foreign investments, which will help propel the growth of the Portuguese economy.”   According to Ricardo Arroja, the Chairman and CEO of the Portuguese economic development agency AICEP: “The aerospace industry in Portugal is on the upward path, as our country is now hosting an increasing number of key players in the industry, contributing to a full production cycle that ranges from development to production and overhaul.”    Lufthansa Technik will set up a training center in Santa Maria da Feira in 2025 to train the future employees of Lufthansa Technik Portugal so that production can begin upon completion of the new 54,000 square meter facility.   Lufthansa’s new manufacturing plant in Portugal will create more than 700 jobs and candidates will be able to apply for them in 2025.  Lufthansa Technik will advertise jobs online in the coming weeks and the positions being sought include mechanics, electronics technicians, engineers, as well as process and human resources managers of all genders. #portugalnews #investmentnewsportugal #economicnewsportugal #newslufthansagroup #lufthansatechnikportugal #newsaerospaceindusry #newsaviationindustry
